| First, a little history... - the Michipicoten Club was established in 1976 under the leadership of Tom Baxter - runs from Highway 17 North to follow the Magpie River valley, south along the coast to Bridget Lake. - an old, little-used section runs from Bridget Lake south to Noisy Bay in Lake Superior Provincial Park. There is a small but dedicated group trying to re-establish the Wawa Club. OUTING SCHEDULE: (Everyone is invited...) Assumption of Risk Agreement Michipicoten Trail Conditions (updated Fall 2011 - most sections hiked in 2011 could use chainsaw work): On bridge over Wawa Creek near Klondike Street & Montreal Avenue South intersection (A1) to Wawa Tourist Information Centre (A2) [3.0km]: passable (2005) A2 to A3 (behind the old Pinewood Inn--now closed) [3.7]: You must cross Hwy 17 so be very careful of traffic! A3 to Magpie High Falls (A4) [8.5]: Cleaned and blazed. (November 2006) A4 to Michipicoten Harbour Road (A5) [11.4]: Could us a bit more saw work and blazes, however followable. Slippery when wet, (2011) A5 to old Fort Friendship Road (A6) [17.5]: You must follow the Michipicoten Village (Mission) Road to Hwy 17 and then head south about 2km to the old Fort gravel road. This section is all on roads and there are no blazes to follow. A6 to Bridget Lake gravel road [A7] [21.0]: cleaned (2011) A7 to LSPP boundary access trail (approx. .5 km S of LSPP boundary marker on Hwy 17) (A8): Trailhead is towards western end of Bridget lake marked only with yellow flagging tape. Needs a lot of saw work and blazing. Be prepared to bushwhack! (2011) Marker 1032 (Hwy 17) towards Lake Superior (Smokey Point) Starts out in a swampy area and could use some chainsaw work, but followabble toSmokey Point. The trailll south towards Noisy Bay needs to be established. (2011) A8 to Noisy Bay access trail (across Hwy 17 from Fenton-Treeby parking lot) (A9) [30.0]: Not blazed and maintained very well.
